Mezzanine Floor Industry News

During March 2005, the Government agreed to an amendment (now section 49 of the Act) which brought under planning control the creation of additional floor space within buildings.

This ammendment was in response to concerns that the development of mezzanine floors in large retail stores, significantly increased the available floorspace, without the increase being subject to planning control in many cases.

If the proposals are implemented, many out of town retailors would have to apply for planning permission if the mezzanine floor exceeds 200m2.

Relocation provided TDI with the oppurtunity to assist Country Artists move to a manufacturing facility closer to their head office in Stratford Upon Avon.

After a full & detailed consultation and various site meetings, a scheme was designed and put in place which fully covered the companys requirements.

General offices were constructed beneath the mezzanine floor to house their manufacturing division, whilst upstairs managers offices, meeting rooms and showroom facilitys were all put in place. This involved feature glazing with integral blinds and door veneers were upgraded to suit the company's profile. All existing walls were re-dressed in plasterboard, taped and filled then painted to match the overall scheme. Suspended ceilings were fitted throughout, some 1400sq,metres and additional toilets, canteen facilitys and kitchens all with full utilities were installed upon request. Staircase enclosures were installed upto the mezzanine level and additional fire exits were added to conform with Building Regulations.

TDI liaised with ellectrical and air conditioning contractors which ensured minimum delay or disruption to their client.

During April 2007 TDI were awarded a contract totalling 500 sq.metres at their manufacturing facility in the UK. The mezzanine was installed outside normal working hours to allow Triton's prodcution to continue.
