Mezzanine Floors Technical Data and Information
BASIC CONSTRUCTION OF A MEZZANINE FLOOR
Base Plates:
Hot rolled Mild steel plate secured to the floor with sleeve anchors. Size is dictated by height, column grid and usage of the mezzanine.
Columns:
Rolled Hollow Section, can vary in size from 80 x 80mm to 180 x 180mm for larger spans.
Main Beam:
Universal Beam, known as I'Beam, predominantly 254mm deep
Secondary Beam:
Swagebeam Grade S390 galvanised steel, this cold rolled formed purlin gives added strength to our mezzanine's. Normally at 700mm centres
Handrail:
Positioned to all open edges of the platform, 1.1m overall height with knee rail in between, inclusive of posts every 1.5m centres. Kickboard (MDF(to bottom, 100mm high if required. We also supply enclosed handrail for retail use if required.
Sliding or up and over gates:
Nominally 1500mm wide to allow suitable access for pallets to the mezzanine level. Chequer plate wear plates to decking level are optional.
Staircase:
Range from 900mm wide single flight staircase for storage platforms to 1200mm wide ambulant stairs with mid and top-landings for retail or office environments. Constructed from mild steel stringers with chequerplate plate treads, to give a non-slip surface.
Decking:
38mm High Density Particle Board, other ranges are available, for information please contact our sales office.
Paint Finishes:
Steel - One coat Blue (18E53)
Decking - Natural
Deckbeams - Galvanised
Handrail posts and tube - Blue (18E53)
Stair treads - Black

Fire Cladding Specification:
Should the platform be used for means other than storage, depending on the structure size and usage it may be necessary to protect the platform against the possibility of fire to at least a one-hour standard conforming to Part B1 of the Building Regulations Act 1991. This also applies should the platform take up more than 50% of the available ground floor area, or exceeds more than 20.0m in any set direction.
This can be achieved using the following specification: -
To the complete underside of the mezzanine a One-Hour suspended ceiling will be fitted consisting of 1200mm x 600mm white decorative ceiling tiles clipped securely into a vivid white grid system with the main carriers being positioned at 600mm centres and be complete with white angle trim to all perimeters.
All vertical columns supporting the mezzanine will be fully encased using a four-sided White Leather grain, PVC or galvanised column encasement system packed with fire retardant materials.
All exposed edges of the platform to be fitted with a fascia board.
Building Regulations:-
Building Regulations application and inspection fee is available at extra cost, we will need a block plan, site plan and slab details of the premises to assist in the application.
